VIO Server and SDD/MPIO/SDDPCM
« on: March 24, 2010, 02:27:32 PM »
Does anyone know what is required for a VIO server and LPARS running 53TL8SP3 with regard to SDD? We now have dedicated LPARS with SDD v7 for SAN attached storage (direct DS8100 storage and SVC for FAStT) but I believe it is advised to use MPIO (or SDDPCM?) for micro partitions with VIO?
Thanks!

Why don't you install the multipathing software (SDD in your case) in the VIOS using the oem_setup_env command and then assign as many HBA as needed and finally present all the desired disks to the VIOS.
Once the VIOS owns the disks you can use VSCSI funtions to allow LPAR access.
If your LPARs are not Disk I/O intensive this could be much easier and some times cheaper (specially if you are licensing Power Path software from EMC)
