Adding virtual adapters - VIO bounce needed?
« on: April 25, 2007, 07:10:25 PM »
Hey all-
I'm adding another LPAR to one of our P55A servers, and when I add virtual adapters (ether or scsi) to the VIO server profile, it does not show up in the LPAR profile.  In the VIO server, I go root with oem_setup_env and run cfgmgr, but that still does not find the new devices.  Is a bounce of the VIO necessary?  I thought with DLPAR that I was able to build new LPARs on the fly...

DLPAR can and does add them to the running system, but it does not add them to the profile.

In other words, adding them to the profile does not constitute DLPAR.

Note that once you have added with DLPAR, and the DLPAR operation has completed successfully, you can SAVE the current (running configuration) to a new profile.
