Title: DLPAR
Post by: miky on January 23, 2007, 09:17:41 AM
Hi Support,

Recently I have being set up DLPAR on P5-570 with AIX 5.3-ML05.
But unfortunately DLPAR can't running, I can't move the resources from partition to others.

Fyi, network from HMC to partition running well, but on partition can't find daemon IBM.DRM and the IBM.HostRM on output of command 'lssrc -a|grep rsct'.

Any missing fileset on our partition? I waiting your advise.
Let me know, so many thanks.

rsct.* is installed by default, and it is quite difficult to uninstall it.

I dont have access to a 5.3 system in an LPAR, but on an stand-alone system running AIX 5.2 I have the following software and commands. You should have at least this software installed.

Code: [Select]
michael@x054:[/] lslpp -L rsct.\*
  Fileset                      Level  State  Type  Description (Uninstaller)
  rsct.core.auditrm    C     F    RSCT Audit Log Resource
  rsct.core.errm       C     F    RSCT Event Response Resource
  rsct.core.fsrm       C     F    RSCT File System Resource
  rsct.core.hostrm     C     F    RSCT Host Resource Manager
  rsct.core.rmc        C     F    RSCT Resource Monitoring and
  rsct.core.sec        C     F    RSCT Security         C     F    RSCT Registry
  rsct.core.utils      C     F    RSCT Utilities

michael@x054:[/] lssrc -a | grep rsct
 ctrmc            rsct             24774        active
 IBM.ERRM         rsct_rm          26834        active
 IBM.ServiceRM    rsct_rm          23230        active
 IBM.AuditRM      rsct_rm          25808        active
 ctcas            rsct                          inoperative
 IBM.FSRM         rsct_rm                       inoperative
 IBM.HostRM       rsct_rm                       inoperative

OK. Some basics for checking.

On the hmc use the command lspartition to see which partitions the HMC considers suitable for DLPAR operations.

The main command we are interested in is: lspartition -dlpar

I also excute the following command when I am not satisfied with the output - i.e. I feel it is missing systems. lspartition -sfp

The first command lists partitions the HMC considers are DLPAR capable, the second lists systems that are considered capable of supplying the Service Focal Point (sfp) with data.

hscroot@hmc1:~> lspartition -dlpar
<#0> Partition:<1*9111-520*65CXXXX,,>
       Active:<1>, OS:<AIX, 5.3>, DCaps:<0x3f>, CmdCaps:<0xb, 0xb>, PinnedMem:<185>
<#1> Partition:<2*9111-520*65CXXXX,,>
       Active:<1>, OS:<AIX, 5.3>, DCaps:<0x3f>, CmdCaps:<0xb, 0xb>, PinnedMem:<128>
<#2> Partition:<6*9111-520*65CXXXX,,>
       Active:<1>, OS:<AIX, 5.3>, DCaps:<0x3f>, CmdCaps:<0xb, 0xb>, PinnedMem:<128>

If your system does not show up in either system, go to your partition and/or top the hmc and verify that your network connectivity is working. If they cannot communicate with each other (partition IP, HMC IP) DLPAR is not possible.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Michael.

It works for me on a LPAR with a full aix installation. After reconfiguring rsct and reboot HMC I can shuffle with resources.

The next problem is there, at the company I work for they have a special build of a AIX installation, it's a bank, when I install that build I cannot work with dlpar.

Wich filesets are necessary to work with dlpar?
it's a stripped version of AIX because of security.

On AIX it is mainly the rsct filesets - all that I can think of in any case.

try lssrc -a | grep rsct

From that, I do the following odmget statements:

# odmget SRCsubsys | grep DRM
        subsysname = "IBM.DRM"
        path = "/usr/sbin/rsct/bin/IBM.DRMd"
        standerr = "/var/ct/IBM.DRM.stderr"
# lslpp -w /usr/sbin/rsct/bin/IBM.DRMd
  File                                        Fileset               Type
                                       devices.chrp.base.rte        File
# odmget SRCsubsys | grep ServiceRM
        subsysname = "IBM.ServiceRM"
        path = "/usr/sbin/rsct/bin/IBM.ServiceRMd"
        standerr = "/var/ct/IBM.ServiceRM.stderr"
# lslpp -w /usr/sbin/rsct/bin/IBM.ServiceRMd
  File                                        Fileset               Type
                                 devices.chrp.base.ServiceRM        File

so, I would verify that these entries are in the SRC system, and that these devices.chrp.base.* filesets are installed.
