Reject a new version of bos.rte.install
« on: May 14, 2011, 02:06:25 AM »
Friends, I have a problem, and can't find a solution.
In a server I execute "oslevel -s"
5300-02-00-0000

And I want to make a preview of TL11 SP5, so, I installed the bos.rte.install 5.3.11.5

The preview was fine, after that I rejected the new bos.rte.install, because after all the server owner don't want the upgrade.
But the problem is, when I use "instfix -i | grep ML", now shows

"Not all filesets for 5300-11_AIX_ML were found."

Why? if I rejected the new bos.rte.install from server? how can I fix that?

Thank you

Michael

It depends.

My experience is that some filesets do not rollback. If you have committed the update, or if the installp option to rollback will not work is to force install from an installable fileset (usually ending in a .I)

That will overwrite whatever is installed and update the software database so that you should get the same oslevel responses you were getting before.

Thank you Michael, but maybe you don't understand my question, but it's OK, because I found a solution.

It's necessary backup 2 files:

/usr/lib/objrepos/fix
/usr/lib/objrepos/fix.vc

After that install the bos.rte.install-xxx , make your "smit preview", andIf after the preview you decide to leave the server like before , I mean, no "instfix -i | grep ML" problem you need to reject the bos.rte.install-xxx and paste the fix* backup in /usr/lib/objrepos/

thats it ... problem solved

Actually, I would use restore -Tf bos.rte.install.XXXX to see what files it modifies, and back all those up, not just the ODM history information.

Very practical solution! -- It is what the rollback of installp is supposed to do.
