BASH installation on 6.1
« on: August 31, 2014, 03:59:14 AM »
Hi,

I am attempting to install SSH (from obtained from aixtools.net) onto aix 6.1 and have the following 2 files:

# ls -lt aix*
-rwxrwxr-x    1 root     system       542720 Aug 31 12:04 aixtools.xz.powerpc.5.0.3.I
-rw-r-----    1 root     system      4163584 Aug 31 11:57 aixtools.bash.powerpc.4.2.0.I

The message on aixtools.net:
Most have been compressed to a XZ archive. Use the fileset aixtools.xz to uncompress the files.

How do I use the fileset aixtools.xz to uncompress the files?

Yes - I know this question will prompt laughter among some, probably most. In my defense I have come from the Solaris world where things are quite different.

Please help!

It was a typo - sorry

I had uncompressed the files, so you do not need xz. But do feel free to use it.

re: the bash fileset.

My apologies for my long vacation! and late reply!

roughly speaking, the general process is to put the file in a directory, e.g. $HOME/aixtools

Then, to be sure:
Code: [Select]
# inutoc $HOME/aixtools
# installp -d $HOME/aixtools -L # lists what you have in the directory
And, what should work for bash is:

Code: [Select]
# installp -d $HOME/aixtools -ac aixtools.bash
Or use #smitty install and point at $HOME/aixtools (or whereever you choose)

FYI: I have just packaged bash 4.2.50 and 4.3.27 that include the security fixes re: backslash.

The packages are in http://dl.aixtools.net/tools. The two bash-4.?.patches are the patches that have been applied.

Enjoy!

FYI: updated both again yesterday.

Find them at: bash.4.2.51 and bash.4.3.28
