No New Posts POWER

This board covers POWER5 and later systems. The key difference in these systems - compared to earlier systems is the POWER Hypervisor and Service Porcessor connections via TCPIP rather than RS/232. The differences are mainly in the features, not in the management.

No New Posts POWER4

Virtualization - as we know it for AIX began with these systems (The term LPAR - logical partition - started with systems. Also starting with POWER4 - DLPAR - better named Dynamic Resource Allocation). Firmware updates, partitioning (HMC Version 3), etc.. POWER4 systems were also installed as bare metal (i.e., no HMC management, no virtualization).

No New Posts RS/6000 (Power III and earlier)

chrp models support AIX thru AIX 5.3; mca and rspc models support AIX thru AIX 5.1 (i.e., Power 4 and above is needed for AIX 6)
